THOMPSON

Writer Director

About

Forever fan of Horror, Folklore enthusiast, and all-around lover of the arts; I am Beck Thompson, born and raised in West Yorkshire, England now living and working in Sydney, Australia. My journey has led me to work in fast-paced, collaborative environments and previous experience varies from script coverage, notetaking, writing and directing.

I have a passion for character-driven stories within drama, horror and thriller, with a deep love for literature. I spent my college years in England studying classical literature, and now, firmly settled in Sydney, have graduated with a Master of Arts: Screen (Screenwriting) degree from the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS). I have dedicated my practice to subverting genre conventions and exploring how audiences perceive identity and reality through the character’s emotional journey, using the horror and thriller genre to discuss these themes. Currently, I am interested in pursuing stories that offer an unusual or absurdist lens into themes of female autonomy, empowerment and resistence.

I have written and directed a series of short films that have had success across festivals both in Australia and the U.S. Most recently, Under The Water (co-writer), was selected to screen at FlickerFest Australian Shorts program 2024. My Folk Horror feature screenplay, False Morel, was selected as a quarterfinalist in the 2023 Screencraft Horror Screenplay Competition and in 2024, my short screenplay, Dead Dad Club was shortlisted for the UK Film Festival as well as a semifinalist for Screencraft's Short Film Screenplay competition.

In 2022, I worked with AFTRS and the Asian-Pacific Broadcasting Union as a facilitator and guest lecturer on an Advanced Television Production Workshop at Radio Television Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, where I assisted a team of creative executives for Vanuatu Broadcasting and Television, in brainstorming and pitching an anthology children's program.
